Android keyboard

Some Android phones and tablets display the dialling keyboard when you open NGT Lite. This can happen if you unlock your mobile with a PIN and open NGT Lite. You can overcome this by changing the keyboard you use. We've found that the Google Keyboard works and can be downloaded from the Play Store, other keyboards are available and might better suit your needs.

Not able to link your phone number to NGT Lite

The NGT Lite uses your Calling Line Identification (CLI) to link your phone line to the app. The CLI is usually the same as your phone number. However in some cases such as business systems or phone services that connect over the internet the CLI we see is different. If you are having problems linking to your app please contact your service provider to get the CLI that is being used and then enter that into NGT Lite instead of your actual phone number.

08 and 09 numbers can't be linked to NGT Lite

The NGT Lite is designed to work with individual telephone numbers and will not work with 08 or 09 numbers.

Failed to load configuration files on start-up

If you run NGT Lite and a window opens saying Failed to load configuration files on start-up this means one of the configuration files is corrupted.

The two configuration files numberids.dat and userprefs.dat are in C:\Users\{username}\Documents\NGTS and there are two ways to fix the problem:

  1. If you do this you will need to set up NGT Lite again e.g. link phone numbers and change font size.

    • Delete, or rename, both configuration files
    • Link your phone numbers with NGT Lite Options > Phone Numbers
    • Change any other settings Options > Your Preferences and Text Relay

  2. Or you can identify the configuration file that's causing the problem as follows:

    • Using Windows Explorer open C:\Programe Files (x86)\NGT Lite
    • Move your mouse to an empty area in the Windows Explorer's right-hand pane then hold down the Shift key and right-click your mouse
    • Click the Open command window here option
    • In the command window type "NGT Lite" debug=SEVERE logfile=true and press Enter, making sure you include the inverted commas around NGT Lite
    • Click Ok when the error message pops up
    • Using Windows Explorer open C:\Users\{username}\Documents\NGTS\Logs
    • Double-click the log file to open it using Notepad
    • In the log file look for either:
      1. com.dspg.ngts.eua.NGTS_EUA_Definitions LoadNumberIDs SEVERE null - you need to delete, or rename, the numberids.da file, you will need to re-link your phone numbers with the NGT Lite app Options > Phone Numbers

      2. com.dspg.ngts.eua.NGTS_EUA_Definitions LoadUserSettings SEVERE null - you need to delete, or rename, the userprefs.dat file, you will need to change any other settings Options > Your Preferences and Text Relay

If in doubt please email a copy of the log file to the Helpdesk so that we can advise you.

NGT Lite doesn't open on Windows

When clicking on the NGT Lite icon NGT Lite doesn't run but the Command Prompt window opens briefly then closes.

This problem can be caused by either Java not being installed or the files are missing. You can check that Java is installed as follows:

  • In the Search Windows field on the bottom left of the screen type 'cmd' without the quotes and then press the Enter key
  • When the Command Prompt window opens type 'java -version' without the quotes and then press the Enter key

If Java is installed correctly you'll see something like the text below, however the version numbers will be different:

java version "1.7.0_99"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_99-b31)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 24.95-b03, mixed mode, sharing)

If you get an error message such as 'The system cannot find the file' then there's a problem with Java and Java needs to be reinstalled.
